I Sat

I kiss you like the first day of rain
after a drought.
Days, even months
after a long spell.

It’s natural that you’d flinch
having gone so long
without touch.

I pressed my lips
where you ache,
where you were the driest.
Where the pain only amplified
until you felt
that it wasn’t.

Things we aren’t so sure of
feel like weapons
until we’re sure
that they aren’t.

I don’t mind your silence.
I don’t care how much space it
Takes.
I just sat
until you welcomed me.
And will continue to sit.
