Zero Gravity

I wasn’t supposed to be here.
Not like this.
Just like I am inside you.
You’re inside me
just beneath my breath,
screaming inside my lungs.

I suppose if the roles were reversed,
I wouldn’t know how to ask you either.

They say kisses don’t land
in zero gravity.
Actually, not too much of anything
lands in zero gravity.
They slide like ice across wet styrofoam
always moving,
looking for a place to land.

You pulled away,
but stayed in front of me.
All of you,
everywhere at the same time.

Maybe this is how it’s supposed to go.
No ground, no gravity
just us, rotating around fingers curled tight,
holding on to what we can.
Me and my infinite doubles of you.

Before the bang,
before my helmet cracked
on the side of the wall,
I didn’t hear a sound.
The only thing I saw
was you floating toward me.

If evac doesn’t make it in time,
and the last thing I see
is you under red flashing lights..

Know that we did not need this ship
to realize
that space isn’t space at all.
Inside of your orbit,
every kiss lands
exactly where it’s supposed to
when it’s supposed to.

It doesn’t matter
if no one else sees how loud I love you,
as long as you see it.
