Your Rock

Lay on top of me and tell me how your day went.
Was it just right, or was it too over the top?
Did that one friend of yours expose herself in front of you again,
and somewhere down the line, you threw your hands up,
already over it?

I’m serious, let’s talk about it.
You’re my best friend.
When you’re not yourself, I am not myself.
The more we talk, the more we’ll laugh and joke about it.
But no matter how much you laugh,
I still see the pain in your eyes.

If you don’t want to talk right now, that’s fine.
Take your time.
Lay on top of me, and we’ll share the silence together.

If you blow up and take it out on me, I understand.
But when it’s all said and done,
I need you to return here to me,
like we are now.

Feed me more understanding,
along with the rise of your head on my chest.
I have no problem waiting
as long as you need.

But when it’s all said and done,
I need you to return here to me.
Where your every secret, your every truth,
is kept without worry.
