Look Up

You and I are two hearts
under the same sunset.
A time night forgets to call.
Although you can’t see them,
the stars unbutton themselves
one breath at a time,
just waiting to be seen.
Your eyes a metronome
that swings between the stars
and what we are now.
The way a single heart
learns to trust another.

We meet forehead to forehead.
You don’t kiss me,
nor do I kiss you.
We inhale each other,
tucking ourselves between
where your heart pauses
and mine begins to beat.

If ever our lips are too full
to speak,
we’ll only need to look up.
